Corning - not just in your kitchen cupboard
We spent the day at the Corning Museum of Glass.
There were lessons in chemistry as we learned how they made different colors of glass. There were lessons in patience when looking at a Tiffany Stained Glass Window. Sweet's favorite lesson was the 680 Corning bowls they had stacked from clear glass to ceramic with the different temperatures reached to reach the different colors and hardness.

Sweet made a blown ornament that got put into a mold before final shaping. It was the same mold they use to make pickles but we made it round instead of long.
Gherkin made a fused glass wind chime. He decided to make one band for each member of the family.
KimChee made a fused glass sun catcher.
Dill made a blown glass sculpture. He tried to get the guy to work with him to change it a bit but they were very rigid in the design.| Take the picture quick - it's off to the cooling oven! |
Gherkin was very excited to find this piece of glass work. This reminded him of part of Star Wars Episode 8.
