Once a Shipmate Always a Shipmate

One of the blessings of this adventure is getting to catch up with shipmates.  Although we missed pictures we were able to connect with church friends and shipmates from Astoria in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan.  It was great to have a driveway to pull into a do laundry!

What better day than Coast Guard Day to connect with former shipmates.  We made it to Mecca of all Coasties on Coast Guard Day - Grand Haven, Michigan!!!  We watched the parade, wandered the town in 90 degree heat, had our ground cover confiscated, and watched fireworks all with 300,000 of our closest friends and Coast Guard supporters.

We found Shipmates that we didn't expect!
RADM V - who was the guest speaker at Dill's retirement

CDR T - who we were stationed with at the Academy
We found yet another Pickle Joint!
Didn't eat there but one of the other Admirals told us she had been there 3 times already!
We wandered the river front - yes those are people all the way to the lighthouse!!!
We enjoyed an awesome fireworks display.  They have a "musical fountain" which we were just enough downwind from that we couldn't hear much of the music timed to the fireworks and water jets.

The next day we headed a bit south to connect with some Class of '94 friends.  They shared their lake with the boys and then we had a great dinner and ice cream!

Don't mind Gherkin - he had just suffered through yet another coughing fit from his allergies.
In all an awesome Coast Guard Day Weekend!!
