Minnesota - Part 2
We headed back down the Minnesota coast for some more investigation. Split Rock Light was our first stop. Probably the only bearing light vs. navigational light we have seen. It was interesting to see how they had to use the winch to lift itself to get to the top of the rock to be able to bring up all the supplies.
Storage of Kerosene - classic, lets store it in the oil house with the dynamite!Bi-lens light (two sides rather than the 4-5 side Frenel we are used to)
Light keeper's cover. They put indoor plumbing and heating into the 3 keepers homes to encourage them to bring their families. This was the first time we had seen sealed tile on the inside walls of the lighthouse.
We headed north a bit to Beaver Bay and did a 6 mile bike ride along the Gitchi Gumi Bike trail.
A great closure to the area. We even got to experience the wrath of Lake Superior weather. Very unpredictable but amazing!
