About a year ago the boys discovered Innovation Nation on CBS
Saturday Morning. Aside from your typical Saturday morning commercials
it's probably the best thing on. If you have ever seen it. this is
probably familiar...
Edison's signature from the cornerstone of the museum ground breaking. |
Did you know that Ford dabbled in Airplanes? His planes were the first to fly across San Francisco Bay commercially, they went to the Antartic with Admiral Byrd.
His private plane design |
Ford filled the museum with things that he felt were important to innovation - whether social or technology. It was interesting to be able to tie into our trip to the Minuteman Silo with a Duck and Cover display.
Gherkin doing his best "Duck and Cover" - probably should be "Duck and kiss your *** goodbye" |
Developments in technology!
A number of generators though out the museum |
Ford's greatest innovation was the assembly line - not the car... They have a 100 year old Model T that staff take apart every morning down to the chassis and then visitors to the museum get to put a piece on throughout the day.
Social innovation was very important to Ford. The museum was able to acquire the Montgomery, Alabama bus that Rosa Parks was arrested from. It was powerful to hear her story of that day while sitting three seats away.
Second Seat back - a seat of history - Did you know she had been trained in civil disobedience and it wasn't just a spur of the moment behavior as we have been taught?
We spent a morning at the Factory! We got to see where our truck was made! |
We spent 4 days between the three facilities of the museum. Stay tuned for more!
