Taking it Easy in the Big Easy

We kicked off the Carnival season in New Orleans.  Although we missed all the parades we took in one of the Mardi Gras Museums.  The amount of work that goes into one of the costumes is amazing!  It's hard to believe how far they walk with the shoulder harnesses on.

The boys even got into the spirit of Mardi Gras.
We enjoyed some time on the street car and headed down to the garden district.  We could almost imagine Poppie driving - but that trip back to downtown - he would have stopped the car when it started throwing sparks and shorting!

We enjoyed a nice walking tour about the architecture and history of the Garden District.  The iron work was unbelievable.
Our second day we stayed in the French Quarter and got the most we could out of the National Parks Jazz History.  Yup, lots of closed buildings. We went to the city Jazz Museum in the Old Mint and were pleased to see many neat pieces of the Jazz history of the area.

Next we headed to the Children's Museum.  We had a good geometry lesson on an air hockey table.
The boys did some imagining a trip down the bayou.
Beignets from Cafe Du Monde, a visit with shipmates and one more Street Car ride before heading onto the next adventure!
