Rocket City USA - Part 3 of 3 Cathedral Caverns State Park
In anticipation of the fact that with the Government Shutdown on day 33 at the time of this writing and no end in site we are probably going to have to scratch Mammoth Cave from our itinerary. To make up for that we decided to check out Cathedral Caverns State Park.
Although used by Native American upwards of 8000 years ago the full extent of the Cavern was not explored till the mid 1950's. Much work has been done to make it tour friendly and highlight the natural beauty. We were there following some serious rainfall so there were very large lakes within the Cavern which most of the time are 25 foot drop offs. Preparatory apologies for the photographs. It's hard to photograph in the mostly dark without a flash.(just sayin')
