Pensacola - Mess, Meetings and Mayhem

We spent a day backtracking from Mobile to Pensacola where we made a Mess and met up with Facebook friends.

We started with a Mess - Pensacola Mess Hall that is.  It is a Museum of Engineering, Science and Stuff.  Super cool and way more open ended than many other Science museums we have done.  For their small size they pack a punch!

Really Cool Maze!
After lunch we headed to the Naval Aviation Museum to meet up with our friends.  We met through adoption about 5 years ago and found out we had been stationed together at the Academy 10 years ago.  The two boys in back came home while we did our respective times at the Academy and the boys in front came home within months of each other 3 years ago.
The boys became fast friends and we quickly realized that we better go find a field for them to run for the safety and enjoyment of everyone else at the museum.
We did catch the entire Coast Guard exhibit - including the HH-52 because goodness knows you want to be able to land your helicopter on the ocean just in case.
They had a great selection of vintage recruiting posters - though sadly none of them were in the gift shop.

We headed out of the museum to Fort Barrancas.  There we started to experience the results of our current Government shutdown.  We did the nature trail but did not proceed past locked gates to see the fort.  The boys played tag for over an hour and were difficult to convince that it was time to go.

Fair Winds and Following Seas we hope the wind blows us together again!
