Fort Union

Atlas Obscura to the rescue again!  We headed north from Santa Fe and stopped off at Fort Union which is 7 miles of the highway on a dead end road.  There was a moment where it looked like we would be the only folks the ranger would see all day but they actually had a pretty brisk business.  We went on the ranger walk which as you can see the boys were thrilled with.  Then we went to the visitors center for a ranger badge and back on the road again.

Fort Union was built in the confluence of the two branches of the Santa Fe trail - you can still see the ruts!
