We spent a Sunday afternoon at the fort.

Officers Row
Interesting story about officers row. The first few houses were made with quarried stone by stone masons, once the army figured out how expensive it would be to finish the row and other buildings they started using adobe and stucco and painting them to look like the quarried stone homes.
Remember a few weeks back when I told you to be on the
lookout for Buffalo Soldiers? We found them!

Can you see the real horses?
The majority of the buildings on the post were made of adobe and covered with slip. Since adobe is only an air baked brick rather than kiln fired they don't hold up well over time unless they have been well tended.

Single Officer's Quarters
We found the commissary with our favorite product!
The boys learned that you had to have a buddy to have a tent out in the wilds of patrol. Each individual carried half the then that was then snapped together.
After the fort we promised the boys some time at a turn off we had seen with some great boulders. Gherkin and KimChee had a wonderful time showing off their skills on the rocks.
So Long Texas!!! Off to our next adventure...
