Fossil Butte

At some point in the trip we found a list online of the 10 least visited National Parks.  This one didn't quite make the list but I'm pretty sure it's in the top 25.  For us the experience had to be limited to the visitors center.  They do have a few hiking trails around and a "scenic drive" but there was no way we were doing that with the trailer in tow.  Fossil Butte is best known for it's fish fossils.

One of the neat things about the Monument is the time line that starts about a quarter mile from the visitor's center with what was happening on earth at a 9 inch to a million year scale.  By the time you got to the walk around the visitors center things were happening pretty quickly and the boys were excited to see their favorite animal the lemur!
Inside the visitor's center they had a great representation of the different types of fossils they find in the area from leaves to bats to alligators!
Overall a great stop and pretty nice view for lunch on a drive day!
