Home School - World School

We have been trying to tie in much of the book work we do for school to things in the local area.  Gherkin gets the brunt of it since I have based his reading program on texts that reflect the areas we are traveling.  He read "The Captain's Dog" (crossing northern US), "Ben and Me"(New England and Philidelphia), and "Across 5 Aprils" (Gettysburg and Fort Sumter).  Now he is reading "Out of the Dust" (hating every minute of it) but it's checking off two goals of history and poetry.

He wasn't to thrilled when we said we were going to the Woody Guthrie museum but they had a small but mighty exhibit on the Dust Bowl.  They had a virtual reality set up to see what it was like to be in a dust storm.  Narrated by the voice of the Sheriff from Cars.
They also had an exhibit on Leonard Bernstein.  It focused on his progressive influence on music and it's effects on society.  KimChee loved the Young Persons concert they had teaching the parts of the orchestra.
 They made it through...
As a reward we took them to The Gathering Place which is a brand new community space in Tulsa. They have some of the most amazing outdoor equipment we have seen.  We all wish it had been warmer so we could have spent more time.  But, I think a good time was had by all.

Off to the next adventure!!!
