In Memoriam - LTJG Thomas J Cameron
In the summer of 2005 we were stationed at the Coast Guard Academy preparing for the entry of the Class of 2009. Sweet and Dill decided to register as sponsor parents to some of the incoming swabs. We were matched with 4 cadets which quickly blossomed to 10 or more that showed up at our home throughout the next 4 years. One of those cadets was Thomas. We had requested to be matched with a cadet from Oregon to keep the connection to home. Thomas had grown up in Portland and even went to the high school where Sweet's uncle was a teacher.
Fast forward 7 years. We are stationed in Oregon, Dill is deployed and Sweet randomly turns on the TV. The news is on and they are standing in front of the High School and talking about a Coast Guard helicopter crash in Mobile, AL. Before they even said the name Sweet knew it was Thomas. Sweet was able to attend the memorial, funeral and graveside but Dill was not able due to being underway.
Fast forward another 7 years. We spent New Years in Mobile, AL and on New Years Day went to the Memorial to the crew of CG 6535.
