New Dungeness Light

We finally took our first camping trip last weekend! Off to the New Dungeness Lighthouse near Sequim, WA. We picked this site because my Great Uncle was a keeper here during WWII. The light house is on the end of a 5 mile spit and there are no forms of motorized transportation allowed. Gherkin decided he would much rather play in the sand then walk.

A little over 2.5 hours later we finally made it to the lighthouse. It was amazing. A little spot of green after all the rocks and driftwood.
They had a photo of the compound from around the time my Uncle was a keeper.
This is a view from the lighthouse back along the spit to the trail head. That chunk of green off to the top left is where the trail started, well up the hill from there.
Gherkin took a moment to take it all in.
Back at the campsite we had some more interesting adventures. We all cooked hot dogs over the campfire. We assumed that the campfire pit had a grate so we could use a pan and have hamburgers. Luckily Mommy packed enough hot dogs for everyone to get their fill.
Since we didn't have a grate over the fire we had to improvise how to heat water to do the dishes. I ended up getting the jack crank from the truck and using it as a pot hanger. Sometimes a little MacGyver.
Gherkin had a great time in his sleeping bag. Aside from falling out onto the table the first night. At 0300 I heard "THUMP", "MOMMY!"
Definitely worth another camping experience. Lots of lessons learned and lots more fun to be had!
