Oakie Dokie - Okefenokee

Since Christmas is in the books it's time to catch up from Thanksgiving!!!  Sorry to all (6) of you who have been waiting with baited breath for us to catch up on the blog.  We have been in a number of places with sketchy internet and sometimes not even cell service.

We spent Thanksgiving in Georgia.  It was a quiet RV park out in the country.  From there we base camped out to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.  The difference between a Park and Refuge is that people are still able to use the resources (fish, bird, deer, bear) on a Refuge and it's all closed off in a Park.  We took the first day and went to the Western entrance in Stephen Foster State Park - you know his song Swanee River - yup it comes from here!  The second day we went to the Main Entrance on the East side and took a narrated boat tour and then later a canoe trip on our own.

A few notes before the photos.
1.  One thing they tell you is that for every gator you see you don't see 10.
2.  The water is only about 18" deep and then it is bog that will eat your shoes.
3.  Dill can steer a 378' ship with ease - a 10' canoe not so much (think about how note one might come into play)

We lost count after 20 gators - see note 1
