We woke up this morning to two notices on the email for High Wind Warnings which usually include rain - surprise! The morning was pretty soppy but it is Spring Break after all and Mommy was going a little stir crazy. Luckily after lunch the weather tapered off (read we saw a sailors britches of blue and ran for it). In town we have a nice little hike that was calling our name, long enough to burn off energy, close enough to home that if the weather got bad before we made our return trip we could call Amma and Poppie to save us. So off we tromped rain pants and jackets and boots at the ready.

A Little Spring |
Gherkin was all full of gusto to head up the trail

Trillium |
Our first stop was the Cathedral Tree. We were there over the summer but this time we had a little extra in mind. There is a letter box hidden here so we got our first Astoria stamp in our Letterbox journal.

Checking out the Tree. |
I thought I had posted the photo from our family trip here over the summer so we could compare but I somehow missed posting over the summer.

A fun day for Mommy and Gherkin |
After the Letterbox we headed up the long section of trail to the Column. Gherkin wasn't to enamored with all the mud but trucked along anyway.

Tall as a tree! |

Oh no a bridge! |
We finally made it up to the column with only one cloudburst as we came to the end of the trail. There was a brief moment where I debated calling our rescue plan but Gherkin was good to go!

Windy anyone? |

Snack Time |
There was a second Letterbox directions for the top of the trail. We didn't have any luck finding it but Gherkin did find an airplane from the top of the column. It's busy drying out on the counter right now!
