Yurt Convert!

We decided to go for a little different vacation this weekend.  Gherkin has been begging to go camping again after our trip to New Dungeness Light.  In light of the fact that it really is November we decided that camp/car camping was not a good plan.  We have some friends who have done the yurt thing before and recommended it.  We hunted high and low to find a yurt and settled on Kanaskat-Palmer State Park.

By far Gherkin's favorite part of the yurt was the bunk bed!  The Yurt was about 16 feet in diameter, rather roomy and surprisingly warm (thanks to a space heater).

Dinner the first night was topped off by SMORES of course - which Gherkin decided were the best thing on earth!
More photos on the bunk bed - ready for bed!
Mornings looked a little more like this!
Breakfast was pretty cool outside on the picnic table - though lessons learned at breakfast included the need to cut up the bacon and put it in the eggs to rewarm and have warm food.
After breakfast we headed out for a hike to the Green River.  The fall colors were amazing!

My two boys in the hood!
 Family Fun
(we tried to get a family photo the whole weekend and Gherkin did not exactly cooperate).
Lessons Learned...
1. Yurts are really warm even in the pouring rain!
2. The pretty window at the top of the yurt is great except at midnight with a full moon.
3. No matter what anyone tells you racoons are not the size of "a large house cat" - DOUBLE IT!!!
4.  Baby wipes - 'nuf said.
5.  Don't leave any food in anything other than a metal object (car!) see rule 3.
