It's Camping Time!!!
Well, summer is here (read it's June not that it's warm). That means it's time to pull out the camping gear and get out and explore. Not that seasons keep us from camping.
To start out the season we headed to a Yurt. Even better, we camped less than 10 miles from home. It was one of those that almost felt like we loaded the car told the kid we were going camping and then pulled back into the backyard with a tent. Of course Gherkin was very excited to get this adventure started and headed straight to the bunk bed.

Big D on the other hand was quite happy with the yurt concept and that he could kick back and relax almost right away.
Kickin' it at the Campsite |
This time we tried to be a little more adventurous with our cooking. As a kid camping meant Hamburger Helper, spam, and tuna. Mommy tried a few new things...lots of cooking in glass jars and foil packet cooking.

Our contraption for cooking jar omelets in the morning - next time must remember the cooking spray! |
Big D missed out on what might have been the best meal of the trip - chicken pesto packets - since he had to be at a work function (one more reason we only camped 10 miles away).
We learned a few other lessons when it comes to yurt camping that weren't quite the problem when we were out the last time -mainly it gets bright way early in that yurt. The second night Big D went by the house and picked up a blanket and some clamps to make our own indoor tent to cover the center hole of the yurt. We all slept much later the second morning!
Sleeping so peacefully but up at 0630!!! |
Big D and Gherkin rode the new trail-a-bike down to the beach and spent some time digging in the sand. I'm not sure if Gherkin loves the feeling of sand on his toes or just hates having it grind on his feet in his socks.

With the first trip of the season under our belt we have now purchased our own tent to prepare for two more trips that are in the works.
Stay tuned for our Summer Adventures!
