Christmas Trees come from many places; a lot, the attic, a farm, the forest. This year we went somewhere that was a bit of a cross between a farm and the forest. We went out to Jones Tree Farm which in true Pacific Northwest style is a little free in their definition of tree farm. I think at one point it was a well structured farm with trees in rows and such. It has since become a rather "a natural" kind of farm. Many of the trees were grown out of former stumps. They encouraged us to cut what we wanted even if it was 6' off the ground. Gherkin thought it was pretty cool just to be able to wander and carry a stick of course.

After about an hour of searching we finally found "our tree". Gherkin helped Big D size it up for cutting. Big D decided that this was going to be a bit of a work out since the stump was about 10 inches in diameter and in reality the tree really was two or maybe four growing out of this one stump.

The farmer came by with the horse and carriage and we decided that the best plan was to leave Big D to cut while Gherkin and Mommy went for a little ride.

Three trips around that section of the farm later and Big D had the tree down. We loaded it into the wagon and headed out.

Once home we drew upon Big D's engineering skills to be able to put the tree into the stand. Some creative cutting and two tries to get it in the door and it was time to decorate.
Gherkin was a bit concerned with the responsibility of placing the star on the top of the tree...

but with a little help was successful!
